Flea & Tick Treatment From Your Wichita Veterinarian

If your pet isn't currently on a flea or tick prevention medicine, we highly recommend you schedule an appointment with our veterinarian in Wichita Falls. Here at Callfield Companion Animal Clinic, we specialize in providing the quality care your pet needs at all stages of life, and we place a large focus on preventative care. By protecting your cat or dog from fleas, ticks, and parasites, you can avoid a number of potentially serious health complications down the road.

flea and tick treatment

Why is flea and tick prevention so important for cats and dogs? For starters, ticks can carry Lyme disease, a serious disease that can become fatal in dogs and cats. Ticks can also carry other diseases, including Rocky Mountain Fever. In this sense, a tick bite can be so much more than just a tick bite.

Flea infestations can also cause a number of health problems in pets, ranging from skin irritation to infections and even anemia. Not to mention, flea infestations can quickly take over your home.

Flea and Tick Prevention Options

The good news is that there is a wide range of flea and tick prevention options for your dog or cat. One of the more common prevention options is that of an oral medicine, which is usually taken once a month. It is important that you give the medication to your pet at the same time each month to ensure continuous coverage.

Topical sprays can also be used to protect your pet from fleas and ticks. These are simply sprayed onto your pet's fur and can kill fleas and ticks on contact. These are often used alongside monthly oral medicines for additional protection.

Finally, spot-on treatments usually come in monthly supplies; rather than giving them to your pet orally, you break open a packet or capsule and apply the contents (usually in liquid form) to the skin on your pet's neck/back.

Not sure which prevention option is best for your pet? Our veterinarian would be happy to discuss options with you and help you reach an informed decision. Please keep in mind that flea and tick prevention is highly recommended for even indoors pets (such as cats), as fleas and ticks can easily be introduced into the home.

Testimonial

My family has always taken all of our dogs here, and we've always been extremely pleased! All of the doctors are always super helpful, as well as the nurses and receptionists. One of my dogs was extremely sick with Parvo, and he wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for their expertise. They even called to check on him multiple times, which I thought was super sweet! I wouldn't take my dogs anywhere else in town for veterinary care.
